WorldNet Milano is a full duplex, multi-channel audio codec offering both fixed line and ISDN connection. It incorporates both Standard and Enhanced apt-X™ and comes with SMPTE timecode. WorldNet Milano has been designed to deliver high quality audio for post-production facilities, studio to transmitter, studio to studio links and outside broadcast applications.
The apt-X™ algorithm is in daily use throughout the world delivering superior audio quality over countless networks and is the defacto standard across the professional audio industry. apt-X™ is a real time digital audio data reduction system that compresses audio samples by a factor of 4:1 with no perceptive audible degradation and negligible coding delay. Offering resilience to multiple coding, apt-X™ overcomes the problems associated with multiple psycho-acoustic passes of audio in the broadcast chain. Enhanced apt-X™ offers 16, 20 and 24-bit sampling operation and increases both stereo and mono audio channel performance. It also offers a reduction in coding delay, improvements in audio quality and increased dynamic range.
- Available audio bandwidths from 10Hz through to 22.5kHz with corresponding synchronous bit rates from 56kbit/s to 576kbit/s (512kbit/s ISDN)

FAQs
1) What makes the Milano better than the APT box I already have?
In addition to the Standard apt-X of your current system, the Milano features enhanced audio coding at 16, 20, and 24 bit modes. These reduce delay times to less than 2 ms, and improve performance on fast audio transients. The unit is much smaller: only 1U rack space, and the NT-1 network terminators are integrated. Not only does the Milano save you more than 4U in your rack, it reduces the rat's nest of cables inherent to the old DSM100 based systems. The Milano is fully compatible with the existing network of APT products.
2) Why should I trade in my existing APT box for a Milano?
The Milano simply sounds better. The redesigned analog circuitry is far superior to that of APT's previously existing product range, and for digitally based studios AES/EBU is standard. The Enhanced apt-X and greater bit depth provide better s/n ratios and more dynamic range. These improvements can even be heard on existing material recorded at 16 bits!
3) Will the Milano do dual destination like my Prolink system?
Yes. The Milano in Standard 16 bit mode can be split to accommodate 2 independent mono sessions at either 15kHz or 20 kHz to any apt manufactured ISDN codec. And unlike previous systems, the time code sub-band can be assigned to either the left or right channel.
4) Can I use my existing ISDN lines for the Milano?
Yes. Though the much enhanced Milano will accept up to four ISDN lines, it will function in all the same modes as your Prolink or DSM 100 with two or three lines. The additional ISDN line is used to give stereo 20 and 24 bit performance.
5) Is the time code in sync with the audio?
Engineers experienced with prior apt-X based codecs know the audio was ahead of the SMPTE signal, necessitating calculation of an offset. In enhanced apt-X modes, this is no longer an issue; time code is now synchronous to the audio. In standard apt-X, the offset is still required.
6) How is software upgraded?
The Milano software is upgraded via a PC and supplied 9 pin serial cable. The graphical updater program is simple to use, and only takes about 5 minutes to run.
